WIZARD OF WOR
This text file is designed to help any who might want info on
running the "WIZOFWAR.T64" file with the c64s09b emulator.
The Game:
This is a very close port of an early-80's arcade game. The game
is basically a simple, single screen maze in which you run around
and shoot things. When you have killed them all you go on to the
next level with a new single screen maze. The best part of the
game in the original arcade version from my opinion was as a two
player game. You could work together, protecting each others
backs, and move through the levels much quicker. The trick of that
was finding the best places to defend and then getting there. BTW,
there is another "wizard of wor" file out there that does not come
close to original arcade classic. This file is, if I remember
correctly, a file on the "commodore.d64" disk image file.
Loading:
In the c64s emulator, press F9 and then use the arrow keys to
highlight the WIZOFWAR file. Press enter twice. When back at the
ready prompt, press shift-tab.
One-player or two-player:
To select a one-player game simply press the fire button on the "A"
joystick or keyboard equivalent. To select a two-player game,
press the fire button on the "B" joystick or keyboard equivalent.
Keyboard vs. Joystick:
I have had success using the joystick with this game, which makes
controlling it significantly easier. You simply need to select the
appropriate emulation using the F8 key. In fact, it's possible to
control both players at the same time by selecting the "Both"
option on the joystick choices.
Game Play:
As I noted above, it's quite simple: kill or be killed. To get out
of your "home", simply press "up" using the joystick or keyboard.
Then movement is up/down and left/right. The other option is to
fire. As you go up in levels, the "monsters" get harder and
faster, though there are basically only 5 types, including the
wizard himself. These include: Burwor (blue): 100 points; Garwor
(yellow): 200 points; Thorwor (red): 500 points; Worluk
(butterfly-like): 1000 points; The Wizard of Wor: 2500 points. The
worluk appears after clearing the second level and all subsequent
levels. If you kill him you get a double point dungeon bonus.
After him you may or may not face the wizard, who can teleport from
place to place and naturally will try to kill you. You only have
a limited time to kill these last two. If successful, or not, you
move on to the next maze. The game is over when you lose your last
"worrior".
